Web art

I took a class called Generative Art Online, taught by the venerable Nicholas Briz. This class taught me how to make wacky websites and code in Javascript with the help of the Netnet library.

For your entertainment, I've collected the best of these and linked them on this page. These are best viewed on a desktop/laptop, but the simpler ones do work on a phone. Have fun!

The Public Lute is my final project for this class. Using altered classical guitar samples from the FreePats project, I made a free lute for those of us that can't afford one.

I had to learn about classes in Javascript for this one, which is a testament to how complex it is. Paper.js provides the visuals. Before this project, I only made one-stringed instrument simulations, but this has all the four courses of a Medieval lute, which can be retuned and played fairly realistically.

Try using some guitar/bass tabs with this!

Further instructions are on the site. Stay tuned for updates!

Pimple Master is a take on emoji.ink.

It's what it sounds like. Click the pimples to keep the emoji individual from being sad. The game gets harder the longer you play.... and not in a fair way. :)

Sonnet Shaker is what I made for an assignment that required us to work with a database. Technically, the Gutenberg collection of Shakespeare's sonnets is a database.

It's nothing fancy - just a Dadaist poem generator. But with a subtle twist! The words are arranged in chronological order. The 3rd word of the 3rd line will always be from the 3rd word of a 3rd line of a Shakespearean sonnet... and so on. It's just random which sonnet comes from, resulting in slightly comprehensible nonsense.

World's Small Violin takes the D string of a violin and puts it at your fingertips. This was an assignment to make a musical kind of website.

I took a Roland violin sample and turned it into a (somewhat) physically accurate theremin. Thus, you can go ahead and play some melodies with excessive vibrato.
